ABOUT ME
I create technology with both the user and the system in mind.
My Story
I'm Katrina Smith, a software engineer and UI/UX professional with a passion for transforming complex problems into practical, intuitive digital experiences.
My career has taken me across software development, business analysis, UX design, enterprise architecture, operations, and information security. That range gives me a valuable perspective: great software isn't just about writing good code. It requires understanding the people using it, the business problem behind it, and the systems that have to support it.
Today, much of my work sits at the intersection of software engineering and user experience. I design and develop enterprise interfaces, establish reusable UI patterns, translate Figma concepts into scalable applications, modernize legacy systems, and collaborate across product, design, engineering, network, and operations teams.
MY APPROACH
Understand the problem. Design for the user. Engineer for the future.
I believe strong technology solutions should be intuitive enough for users, maintainable enough for developers, and reliable enough for the business. Whether I'm designing an interface, architecting a front-end solution, debugging a production issue, or modernizing a legacy application, I approach the problem from all three perspectives.
Understand
I start with the business goal, the user need, and the technical context—before writing a single line of code or wireframe.
Design
I translate requirements into clear, accessible UX patterns and component structures that serve both users and developers.
Engineer
I build solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and ready for production—with attention to observability and long-term reliability.

MORE THAN CODE
Background that shapes perspective.
My background also includes technical business analysis, cybersecurity, UX design, mentoring, volunteer technology work, and U.S. Air Force service. Those experiences have shaped how I approach technology—with an emphasis on communication, accountability, security, collaboration, and operational readiness.
